CAITLIN Sherwood and Alex Scrowther met as teenagers when they both played in the Cheshire Youth Orchestra.

They reconnected after university through a shared love of music and veganism.

The happy couple became Mr and Mrs at the beginning of August at St John’s Church in Hartford and are looking forward to their honeymoon in Scotland.

Here, Caitlin, who is 25, and 27-year-old Alex, from Hartford tell us their wedding story, in their own words.

If you’ve tied the knot this year or are planning to get married in the next few months, and would like to appear in ‘Our Wedding Day’ feature, email heidi.summerfield@newsquest.co.uk

When and how did you meet?

Caitlin: We met as teenagers when we both played in Cheshire Youth Orchestra. I played violin and Alex played clarinet

What did you think of each other when you first met?

Alex: We didn’t really speak to each other as children but reconnected after university through a love of music and veganism!

Where and when did you get engaged?

Caitlin: Alex proposed to me on Saddell Beach in Kintyre in Scotland on February 24 last year.

How did one of you propose?

Caitlin: Just after a hailstorm, Alex proposed in front of the Port Na Gael, which is the cottage that features in the music video for Mull of Kintyre by Wings.

What was the date of the wedding and reception?

Alex: We got married on August 5.

What was the location of the wedding and reception?

Alex: The ceremony took place at St John’s Church in Hartford and the reception took place at Delamere Events.

How were you feeling on the morning of your wedding?

Caitlin: Nervous! It was tipping down with rain too and I was worried the rain would dampen spirits.

How would you describe your wedding?

Caitlin: It was perfect in every way. The rain stopped just as I was leaving for the church and it stayed dry so we could have our confetti moment outside the church, as well as reception drinks and pictures outside at the venue.

How many guests did you have?

Alex: We had 120 guests in total.

What did your guests eat?

Alex: Our wedding was fully vegan and guests had a middle eastern mezze platter, a mushroom wellington with roasted vegetables and chocolate brownie for dessert.

Did you have a first dance? If so, what was the song and why did you choose it?

Caitlin: Our first dance was Walking On The Waves by Skipinnish. We are both really into Scottish folk music and the song reminds us of our many holidays in the Highlands.

Did you have speeches? How did they go?

Caitlin: We had six speeches in total. They went really well and were a lovely mixture of some funny stories and some very kind and emotional words.

What are your favourite memories of the day?

Caitlin: A very special moment on the day was when we were piped in to the reception venue by a bagpiper while we were being driven by a VW camper van. The day was also beautifully finished off with a firework display, which was a gift from the matron of honour. The church service was beautiful and the confetti outside was definitely a very special moment for us both.

Tell us a little bit about your outfits on the day

Caitlin: The dress was the first one I tried on. I tried on lots afterwards but nothing could compare to the first one! We picked summary colours like lavender, dusty blue and sage green to highlight the day.

Did you go on honeymoon? Where did you go?

Alex: We are about to go on our honeymoon, which is obviously to Scotland! We have planned a tour of the Isle of Skye and the Outer Hebrides and we cannot wait for our adventure to begin.

Please tell us a little bit about the things you have in common. Why do you love each other? Why did you want to get married?

Caitlin: We are both vegan and passionate about animals and making the world a better place. We both love music and we have just clicked from the start. I couldn’t see my future with anyone else and marriage is something that is very important to both of us as it shows the commitment we have for each other.

Is there anything else you would like to share with us about your day or your relationship?

Alex: We would like to thank everyone who worked so hard to make our day so special and we hope everyone enjoyed the day as much as we did.
