POLICE have issued an update following a stabbing on a train.
British Transport Police officers descended on Hartford Railway Station on Friday following reports of a stabbing.
A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder but BTP have this morning (July 31) confirmed he has been released on police bail pending enquiries.
BTP was called to the scene at 4pm on Friday amid reports that a man had been stabbed on a train travelling from Liverpool to Birmingham.
Officers from Cheshire Police also attended, with Chester Road closed for several hours as a result.
The victim, a man in his 50s, received first aid assistance by paramedics from the North West Air Ambulance.

He was taken to a nearby hospital and as of Saturday, was in ‘a stable condition’ with injuries ‘not thought to be life threatening’.
A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 4.05pm to respond to a police incident.
"An ambulance, advanced paramedic, a response vehicle and an air ambulance attended.
"One patient with serious injuries was airlifted to hospital, and another was taken by road."
BTP are carrying out enquiries into the incident and are requesting any witnesses to come forward with information.
A spokesperson from BTP said: “Shortly after 4pm yesterday (July 28), British Transport Police were called to Hartford Station following a report of a man being stabbed on a train from Liverpool to Birmingham.
“A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and is in custody.
“The North West Air Ambulance also attended and took the victim, a man in his 50s, to hospital. Fortunately, his injuries are not thought to be life threatening and he is in a stable condition.
“Enquiries are ongoing and any witnesses who haven’t already spoken to police can contact BTP by texting 61016 quoting reference 408 of July 28.”
