WORK is well underway on Northwich’s new skatepark.
Visitors to Vickersway Park will soon be able to enjoy a new state-of-the-art skatepark.
Now, new images have been released showing what people can expect of the facility when it opens, which may be sooner than expected.
Ross Milne, from the Northwich Skatepark Campaign, said: “I spoke with Wheelscape today and they estimate it to be six to eight weeks from now until completion.
“The original metal park has now been dismantled, with the next job to secure the surrounding wall and fencing before construction of the actual park begins.”
Construction on the new park began at the end of last month, with campaigners having worked on the project since 2017.
It will replace the old metal one, which had become difficult to maintain and closed for good on Sunday (June 25).
Northwich Town Council has worked with partners to secure funding for the park, which is expected to cost around £180,000.
The bulk of the funding came from a £100,000 FCC Communities Foundation grant.
A further £30,000 donation was received from Rudheath and Witton Together, with Cheshire West and Chester Council putting £16,000 towards the project.
The remainder of the cost will be covered by the town council, which launched a SpaceHive crowdfunding appeal, and section 106 monies.
Construction is being carried out by Wheelscape, an experience skatepark construction company.
The firm arrived at the site on Tuesday (July 18), following the demolition of the old skatepark.
Work is now underway to install perimeter fencing before the construction of the park itself.
Speaking ahead of work getting underway, Northwich’s mayor, councillor Jane Thomas, said: "The commencement of the skatepark construction is a monumental moment for our community.
"This facility will provide a safe and engaging environment for our young people to develop their skateboarding skills and promote an active lifestyle.
"I cannot wait to witness the joy it will bring to our town."
