ON a day when the majority of games in the Cheshire County Cricket League were spoiled by rain, Winnington Park were the only Mid Cheshire side to record a victory, writes Mike Talbot-Butler.
Park improved their mid-table posting in Division Three when they beat Upton at the Rec by four wickets.
They replied with 137-6 which included Sam Barnes 56 not out and James Hendry 38 after Upton had scored 136-9, when Barnes took 3-21.
Also in Division Three, Northwich piled up 181 at Barrow – a score featuring Pras Prassanan hitting 61 - but their hosts held out at 97-9. Hari Visvanathan took 5-13.
Tattenhall achieved a smart win at Ashley, while Warrington were rained off before tea at Hawk Green.
Oakmere totalled 176 at Heaton Mersey, with Slade Mitrovitch 73, and Mersey replied with 134-6 before the rain.
Kingsley came near to beating leaders Maritime after running up 139-8, with Ben Stoddart 40. Their hosts reached 106-9, with Stoddart taking 3-21 and Joel Logan 3-23.
In Division Two, Davenham stayed third despite losing by seven wickets at home to Port Sunlight, for whom M Abed was 56 and S Hunt 55 not out.
Division One leaders Bowdon won by six wickets at Romiley, but second-placed Sale were foiled by rain at home to Lindow.
Oulton Park stayed in mid-table despite losing by five wickets at Macclesfield, Martin East top-scoring with 38 in a tally of 130 while Andy Dufty took 4-33.
Alvanley reached 26-0 in reply to Urmston’s big 265-6.
There were only two winners in the Premier Division, one being Alderley Edge who routed Cheadle for 69, with Rick Wilkinson 5-20 and Andy Windle 5-27, before Alderley replied with 70-2.
Also winners were Chester who replied with 217-6 to Nantwich’s 216.
Playing at leaders Didsbury, Toft were saved by rain. They were replying with 29-3 after the leaders’ 227, which included Ed Newman 84.
Grappenhall were unable to bat in reply to Widnes’ 120-4.
