A Northwich Scout group hosted the police and crime commissioner recently after his community action fund helped create a new multi-purpose outdoor space for young people.

John Dwyer visited 1st Lostock Gralam Scouts to see first-hand how his community action fund helped the group install benches and create additional outdoor spaces. The project has enabled more than 60 young people to enjoy a range of activities and outdoor events, such as camping, arts and crafts.

The fund makes up to £5,000 available for new projects or initiatives across Cheshire which deliver community safety or crime prevention activities. Applications can be made by community, voluntary or third sector organisations including parish councils.

Mr Dwyer said: “It’s always great to see my community action fund making a difference for young people and I’m really pleased that the fund has been used to further educate and for the enjoyment of the young people in the scouts.

“Preventing and tackling crime is a priority in my police and crime plan, and the benefits of giving young people a place of their own to develop their skills will be felt by the whole community.  I look forward to seeing this division of the scouts grow from strength to strength.”

Mel McPhillips, group leader of 1st Lostock Gralam Scout Group, added: “We would like to thank the police and crime commissioner for the ongoing support and backing he has provided for our group, through the community action fund, to be able to improve our outdoor area.

"This help will ensure our young people and volunteers can enjoy safe and fun activities outdoors. Learning about our natural world and acquiring #Skills4Life through the transformation of the area.”
