WHEN clients say “this is the best place by a mile”, “amazingly talented” and “a simply lovely experience in a great studio” it’s clear to see why Ink FX Tattoo took our latest Best of 2023 crown.
Frank Barrow runs the relaxed and unrushed studio on Langford Road in Lostock Gralam that has been named Mid Cheshire’s Best for Tattoos 2023.
Each week, we will be searching for the best Mid Cheshire has to offer in different categories.
Oliver Gibney Hairdressing took the first Best of 2023 title – Best for Hair in Mid Cheshire – and Ka Pie is officially Best for Pies with Samantha Dean Nails and Makeup being crowned Best for Nails.
The Red Lion in Little Budworth is Best for Roast Dinner, Grape and Bean was announced as Best for Cocktails and Kanya Bistro and Bar is Best for Breakfast.
Simon Daniels was named Best for Fitness and The Corner Fish and Chip Shop is Best for Fish and Chips.
Voting for Mid Cheshire’s Best for Pizza is currently taking place and we’re also looking for nominations in our latest search - Best for Pets.
Next up was tattoos and Ink FX on Langford Road in Lostock Gralam beat off tough competition from 11 other tattooists and tattoo studios taking our latest Best of 2023 title.
Frank has been creating tattoos for ten years
Frank opened the studio ten years ago having grown up in Rudheath and emigrating to New Zealand in 1987 before returning to the UK in 1995.
The 62-year-old does tattoos that have he has created or ones that have been designed by customers themselves.
He said: “I have an artistic background having worked professionally custom painting and airbrushing motorcycles.
“As I work on an appointment only basis, I am able to dedicate my full attention to each client without any interruptions.”

Frank, who has 12 tattoos himself, got his first ink in New Zealand in 1994 and says the move from airbrush artist to tattooist was smooth as “they go hand in hand”.
He said: “My favourite tattoos are realism designs and portraits.
“Floral designs are quite popular at the moment.
“Winning this award is fantastic – I was humbled to find out I had made the shortlist and quite emotional when I found out I’d won.
“I’d like to thank everyone who kindly took the time to nominate me and vote for me – it means such a lot to me and I’m very grateful.”
