NATURE lovers, people who want to help the environment, and those looking to increase their step count are invited to join WWF’s Great Wild Walk at Delamere Forest.

On July 1, the beautiful scenery at Delamere Forest will play host to fundraising walks in aid of WWF, raising money for nature under threat.

People can choose to walk either five or 10 miles in their WWF t-shirt and collect an eco-medal at the finish line.

Routes are family-friendly and dogs are welcome to join in the fun too.

Eagle-eyed walkers might also be able to spot some of Delamere Forest's wildlife, which includes the beautiful small tortoiseshell butterfly, greater spotted woodpeckers, and rare species of dragonflies like the white-faced darter.

Delamere is also home to highly specialised plants, including sundew, royal fern, and even native species of cranberry.

Funds raised from the Great Wild Walk will help WWF ‘bring our world back to life’, by protecting and restoring wildlife and habitats in the UK and around the world.

Nature-lover Edward Wooton is taking part in this year’s walk at Delamere Forest.

He said: “I spent the first 16 years of my life in a small countryside village, which I loved to explore on foot.

“I walked every trail and inch of that village, and I never grew tired of seeing the wonders that my surroundings had to offer - the trees, the fields, the bugs and the birds.

“So, when I saw Great Wild Walks - an opportunity to explore a forest and give back to nature - I just had to sign up.

“A chance to reset the mind in the best way possible.”

Louise Oakley, director of events and community fundraising at WWF said: “We can't wait to put on our walking gear and take in the sights, smells and sounds of the beautiful Delamere Forest this summer.

“Not only is this a brilliant opportunity to get outdoors, enjoy the company of friends and family and boost your wellbeing, but it’s also a simple way to do your bit for nature.

“People taking part in and fundraising for Great Wild Walks will help WWF’s work to bring our world back to life, and we are there to support their journey every step of the way!”
