THE M6 is facing over four miles of congestion after an HGV shed its load across the carriageway.
The incident occurred between the Warrington exit of the M6 (Junction 21), and Junction 21A, the M62 interchange.
National Highways state there is four miles of congestion, causing delays of 20 minutes above usual journey times.
Two lanes have been closed.
A Cheshire Police spokeswoman said: "Shortly after 3pm today, Tuesday, April 25, police were made aware that a HGV had shed its load on the M6 between J21 and J21a.
"Lanes one and two are currently closed while highways officers deal with the incident."
