A TEENAGER from Winsford has been arrested after a supporter was seen entering the football pitch at the Liverpool versus Manchester United game at Anfield yesterday, Sunday.

Merseyside Police have confirmed a 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of encroaching onto a football pitch.

The teenager is scheduled to voluntarily attend a police station in Merseyside and officers are currently working with Liverpool Football Club in relation to the incident.

As Liverpool players celebrated their seventh goal in front of the Main Stand, a fan was seen gaining access to the pitch, with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp shouting at them as they were escorted off.

It is said the fan appeared to slip and collide with some of the players during the incident.

Liverpool FC condemned such acts and said a lifetime ban from Anfield was on the cards if the offender was found guilty.

The club added pitch invasions were ‘dangerous’, ‘illegal’ and had ‘severe consequences’.

A statement published on its website reads: “The offender ran onto the pitch and collided with Liverpool players, risking injury, as they celebrated the seventh goal in front of the Main Stand.

“There is no excuse for this unacceptable and dangerous behaviour.

“The safety and security of players, colleagues and supporters is paramount.

“The club will now follow its formal sanctions process and has suspended the alleged offender’s account until the process is complete.

“If found guilty of the offence of entering the pitch without permission, the offender could face a criminal record and a lifetime ban from Anfield and all Premier League stadiums.

“These acts are dangerous, illegal and have severe consequences.”
