A MAJOR road was closed after a HGV and car crash in Winsford.

The incident happened on Middlewich Road shortly before 1.15pm on Thursday.

The road was closed due to a spillage of diesel from the HGV.

The crash involved a grey Vauxhall Corsa Griffin and a IVECO HGV.

Fortunately, no-one was hurt.

A spokesman for Cheshire police said: "The vehicle is believed to have collided with the HGV, rupturing its fuel tank which resulted in 100 litres of diesel fuel spilling out on the carriageway, closing the road.

"The IVECO was carrying sulphuric acid but the containers remained intact given the position of impact.

"The driver of the Vauxhall, a 38-year-old woman, was badly shaken up by the incident, but she is believed to be unharmed."
