POLICE officers have cordoned off a park in Northwich after a woman was found dead.
Residents woke this morning to find several police and emergency service vehicles at the scene at Griffiths Park, Rudheath.
Officers arrived at around 9am following concerns for the welfare of a woman and, as of 10.30am, officers are still stationed at the entrance to the park.
A charity football match was scheduled to take place there tomorrow, but as a result of the incident, it has been cancelled.
Northwich town councillor for Belmont ward, Cllr Olwyn Dean, posted on Facebook: “It is with great sadness that I have to report there has been an incident on St John’s Fields, which means we will be cancelling the football match tomorrow.
“Thank you for your understanding, and I will report about rescheduling etc at a later date.”
Cheshire Police have been contacted for information about the incident.
We will update this story with more details as get them.
