STAFF at a Middlewich supermarket are celebrating 10 years serving the town’s shoppers.
At the centre of the celebrations are 11 employees who have worked at Morrisons Middlewich on Newton Bank since the very first day it opened on Monday, January 28, 2013.
Customer assistant Amanda Bettley, who was part of the initial staff intake, said after working with her colleagues for so long they felt like ‘extended family’, and that some of the customers who have been familiar faces at the store since day one 'are like friends'.
Liz Lyons, a Morrisons community champion who has also been there since the beginning, said: "They really look after the staff at Morrisons Middlewich. We’re an absolutely fantastic team.
"We had a staff celebration party on Sunday for those who have worked there for 10 years.
It was a get-together for them and for and other colleagues, and we did nominations for ‘best character’, and even ‘best laugh’ and all sort of silly things like that. It was all a lot of fun.
“You go into some supermarkets and you the people working there seem grumpy and stressed, but I can guarantee you walk into Morrisons Middlewich, you’ll always see us laughing.”
Sallyann Alexander, who works as a people clerk, shared a few stand-out memories from her time at the store.
She remembered how one shopper won a huge sum of money on a scratch card, then went on with their shopping as if nothing had happened.
She said: “The store once sold a £1 scratch card to a lucky shopper who won £100,000.
“You’d think anyone who’d won such a massive amount of money would jump up and down screaming and shouting with excitement.
“This winner stayed very cool and just went on with their food shop.
“We've also served a few celebrities over last 10 years, including local boy John Bishop, Kerry Katona and Shayne Ward.
“Shayne certainly caused a lot of excitement amongst the female colleagues.”
