HARTFORD Parish council is hoping to erect a five meter tall pillar clock in memory of Queen Elizabeth II on the village green.

Plans have been submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council to install the clock on land to the north of Chester Road, opposite the junction with Abbey Lane.

As well as the clock, the parish council is seeking permission to remove five meters of hedging and reduce the height of the hedge along Chester Road to improve visibility of the memorial clock.

It is also hoped this will encourage all Hartford residents to use the village green.

The clock itself is described by Hawkins Clock Company as a ‘four-dialled pillar clock based on a Victorian design’.

A spokesperson for Hartford Parish Council said: “The idea came from Cllr Phil Herbert and Cheshire West and Chester Councillors who thought it would be good to have a big feature to mark the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”

Funding has come in a variety of forms, including from some member budgets, a small charitable organisation, and Hartford Civic Society will also have involvement in the project.

The parish council is eager to get the memorial erected as soon as planning permission is granted.
