TWO 12-year-old boys who were arrested in connection with a fire at Northwich Rugby Club have been handed conditional cautions.
The fire, which happened on October 26, 2022, damaged the rugby club’s historic clubhouse at Moss Farm Leisure Complex, destroying everything inside.
Police were asked to attend, along with a fire investigation officer, as it was believed the fire in the building - measuring approximately 20 metres by five metres - was started deliberately.
On October 28, two 12-year-old boys - who cannot be named for legal reasons - were both arrested and will now undertake work in the community and educational courses.
Sergeant Leanne Brundrett said: “I understand the anger and resentment that this incident caused.
“Both of the boys have admitted their guilt and are extremely remorseful for their actions.
“Following close consultation with the Youth Offending Service, it was agreed issuing the boys with conditional cautions was the most appropriate course of action.
“By issuing them with conditional cautions we are able to work closely with them and their families to help ensure that they don’t do anything like this again.
“The cautions come with a number of strict conditions, and we will be monitoring their behaviour closely.
"The pair will also undertake work to give back to the local community and take part in educational training courses.”
