PLANS for a £22.5 million development bringing 135 homes to Northwich have been shelved.
Earlier this year in February, Barratt Homes submitted an application to develop a parcel of land between Winnington Avenue and the Moss Farm Leisure Complex.
The scheme would have represented phase two of a wider project to redevelop the land around the former Weir Engineering Services Ltd.
The area of land around the application site was historically used by ICI for the production and storage of soda ash, which ceased during the 1980s.
But, in an update this week on Cheshire West and Chester Council's online planning portal, it was confirmed Barratt Homes had withdrawn the plans.
A Barratt Homes Mancheser spokesman said: "We can confirm our planning application for a potential development in Northwich has been withdrawn due to a change in our plans.
"We remain committed to building homes for local people across the North West."
The developer did not elaborate on whether fresh plans for the site would be submitted in future.
According to the plans, the scheme would have included a mix of homes with associated parking, such as one-bed apartments, two and three-bed mews houses, four-bed townhouses and three and four bed semi-detached and detached dwellings.
The scheme would have also included on-site open space, play space and a wildlife corridor.
A design and access statement, submitted as part of the application, it adds: "The proposed dwellings will front onto these internal roads, creating enclosure and defining a high quality street environment.
"The access to the site will be formed from the Winnington Dale development from the North West boundary.
"The proposed developments will provide 135 new homes in a range of types and sizes to meet the local area need.
"It has been designed to complement the surrounding area, creating local identity and to reduce anti-social behaviour.
"Well informed design and material choices will give the development longevity, contribute to the townscape and raise the aspirations of the area."
