A PRIMARY school has been given the go-ahead to retain a mobile classroom as the uncertainty over the impact of HS2 rumbles on.
Since 2019, Wimboldsley Community Primary School, near Middlewich, has made use of a mobile classroom to provide additional teaching space.
Due to being in close proximity to the Cheshire leg of the proposed HS2 rail line, the Nantwich Road school may be forced to relocate in future.
And with recent calls to scrap the project amid the cost of living and energy crises, the uncertainty surrounding phase 2b continues.
It is for this reason, the school hires the classroom as opposed to purchasing it.
The school submitted an application to Cheshire West and Chester Council to retain the classroom for a further three years and this was approved on November 17.
In a council officer's report on the application, it says: "A three-year temporary permission was previously granted in 2019 based on the uncertainties relating to HS2 regarding the need to relocate the school in the future.
"Due to the current timescales relating to the delivery of HS2 the school remains in the same uncertain position and continues to lease the mobile classroom.
"The continued need for the temporary mobile classroom at existing school in a countryside location is accepted and is not considered to result in unacceptable impacts upon the character and appearance of the area.
"As was previously reported, the additional classroom is not to accommodate additional pupils and as such its retention would have no impact upon traffic levels.
"The retention of the classroom for a further three years would have no unacceptable impact in respect of visual amenity or highway safety.
"It is considered that the proposal would not have a significant adverse impact on health or quality of life, having particular regard to residential amenity."
