A Northwich sixth form college where teachers are 'exceedingly passionate' about their subjects has been awarded Ofsted’s highest possible grading.
Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form College was judged 'Outstanding' by inspectors following its most recent inspection in October.
In the report, published on Friday, November 25, the college scored top marks in all categories, including quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management and education programmes.
The report states how students do ‘exceptionally well’ academically, and are well catered for with an ambitious curriculum, outstanding teaching and learning, and tailored support.
The report notes: “Teachers are exceedingly passionate about the subjects they teach. Teachers work cohesively with mentors to provide excellent teaching and support for students.
“Students are proud to study at the college and feel part of a community. They are highly motivated, caring, and conscientious individuals, who consistently demonstrate exemplary behaviours.”
The report also highlights the opportunities for students beyond the classroom, noting an 'extensive range' of extra-curricular activities available, a well-designed personal development curriculum, and top careers guidance.
Inspectors added: "Teachers, mentors and staff provide students with an extensive range of impartial careers information, advice and guidance before and during their courses.
"As a result, students make well-informed and aspirational choices about their future education and career options. Students with SEND benefit greatly from highly effective transitional arrangements, which ensure they enrol on the best course to meet their individual career goals.
"Most students go to university, and a few progress onto apprenticeships."
Sir John Deane’s principal, Christopher Atherton, said: “In an era when it is becoming increasingly difficult to retain an 'outstanding' judgement, we are incredibly proud that Sir John Deane’s remains outstanding in all areas, and has done so for the last 15 years.
“I am very grateful to my colleagues for the many years of hard work that have gone in to making Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form College such a special place to study and work.”
