A SCOUT group has submitted plans for a new scout hut in Davenham, to become a hub not only for the group, but also the wider community.

The 1st Davenham Scout Group has put forward proposals for a two-storey community building, with activity spaces, office, kitchen, and storage.

The scout group – which has three sections including Beavers, Cubs and Scouts – has never benefited from its own facility and most recently met in St Wilfred’s Parish Church Hall.

As planning documents explain, for many years the group has been meeting outdoors at the proposed application site, using porta-loos and a shipping container for storage.

The site, located near Peckmill Roundabout, off London Road, Davenham, was bought by the scout group in June 2019.

A spokesperson said: “Our plans include a two-storey community building with two large activity spaces, as well as an office, kitchen, and storage facilities.

“The building has been designed especially for the needs of the Davenham community to benefit both scouts and other community groups.

“Full plans and associated documents are available on the Cheshire West and Chester planning portal under the reference 22/03821/FUL.

"The public comment period is now open and will close on December 12, 2022.”

A design and access statement continues: “As there are no opportunities to permanently rent a hall with appropriate facilities within the area, the client's brief was to provide a permanent building for the scout group to assemble on a regular basis, whatever the weather.

“The proposal will enhance the amenities which are available within Davenham and the wider area, helping support the needs of the local community.”
