A HUMANITARIAN services organisation in Northwich is to re-start a quarterly networking and public information event which has been running since 1922.
The Rotary Club of Northwich will once again be holding its ‘Special Speakers’ luncheon in December, the first since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.
The event is an opportunity for local people and businesses to meet and discuss issues concerning the community, and it also provides a platform for organisations to address the public about projects with which they are involved.
The special speakers for the first event will be Chris Shaw, Northwich town clerk, Adam Gerrard, project manager from Northwich Business Improvement District (BID), and there will be a crime and policing update from Cheshire Police's chief inspector Darren Griffiths.
Clive Steggel, Special Speaker secretary for Rotary Northwich, said: “We haven’t had it for a couple of years now because of the Covid situation.
“The whole idea is to get local people and local businesses together and get them talking to each other and being positive about Northwich.
“There could be anywhere between 100 and 150 people turning up.”
The event takes place on Monday, December 12 at 11.45am, at Winnington Park Recreation Club, and is expected to continue until 14:30pm. All are welcome, though attendance should be confirmed by emailing northwichrotaryss@gmail.com.
Rotary Northwich President, Martin Fallon, said: “These meetings have always been very popular. They are a means of getting information out to the public that they would not normally get to hear about first hand.
“We provide a platform for orgnaisations concerned in certain projects, such as the police, the town council, or HS2, to get information across to the public.
“Over the last fews years, with all the lockdowns, it has been disappointing that we’ve not been able to provide this outlet.
“I’m very much looking forward to their starting up again.”
Rotary Northwich are responsible for many of the towns best-loved events, including Northwich River Festival, Northwich Beer & Drinks Festival, the Annual Firefest Bonfire & Firework Display, and the Northwich Charity Swimathon.
They also engage in charity work locally, focusing on different projects each year.
This has included running an activity group for Alzheimer’s sufferers, managing a section of the Weaver Navigation on behalf of the Canals and Rivers Trust, providing dictionaries for school children, environmental development work at Carey Park and providing transport services to and from social clubs, for those who need it.
