EDDIE Stobart has released a statement following the company receiving a fine for exposing workers to asbestos at a site.
The logistics company pleaded guilty to charges at the beginning of November, and admitted it did not provide relevant surveys at the time in question.
Asbestos was discovered at a site in Widnes in 2018, after work had already been completed by the company at the site.
Untrained workers were exposed to the harmful substance after a relevant survey had not been carried out at the site to determine whether asbestos was on the site or not.
The logistics company was ordered to pay a £133,000 fine, and thousands more in legal fees, too.
Based in Appleton, Eddie Stobart has said it is 'fully committed' to health and safety following the incident.
An Eddie Stobart spokesperson said “Eddie Stobart Limited is, and always has been, fully committed to ensuring the health and safety of its employees, as recognised by the court.
"We set high standards across all our sites to ensure health and safety compliance.
"The occurrence in 2018 was an isolated incident in relation to one person.
"The court acknowledged the excellent health and safety record Eddie Stobart has and the fact that there has previously been no enforcement action taken by the HSE against the company in its 50 years of operation."
