NORTHWICH Victoria FC officials have defended the decision for tonight's league game against Bury AFC to be postponed due to Covid 19 restrictions.

In a statement issued by the club, the match scheduled to be played at the U Lock It Stadium was called off this afternoon due to an outbreak of the virus in the Vics squad.

And an apology was made for any inconvenience caused to anyone who would have been attending the game.

One supporter on social media respondede that if Vics had 16 players available then the match should have gone ahead, as per the governing rules.

But Vics have made it clear that they only had 11 players available, meaning they had no substitutes.

And the decision to call off the match followed a meeting of the North West Counties Football League's emergency committee this morning.

A new date and time will be organised in due course.

Bury AFC officials said they had made their case for the game to go ahead.

A Bury spokesman said: “We have made representations to the NWCFL in an attempt to have the game played but ultimately must accept the binding decision of the league’s emergency committee, understanding that both the league and Northwich have a duty of care to the players and the league as a whole."
