POLICE have condemned the behaviour of a ‘mindless minority’ after they aimed fireworks at firefighters on Bonfire Night.
Shortly after 7.05pm on November 5, Winsford fire crews were called to Esk Road in the town to put out an unattended bonfire.
While they were responding to the incident, they were targeted by a group of young people.
“Our duty watch from Winsford Fire Station were called to put out an unattended bonfire with a hose reel water jet,” said a spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.
“We're sorry to report that a group of young people aimed fireworks at the firefighters while they were working.
“This is totally unacceptable and highly dangerous.
“Police were called to the scene.”
Inspector Jason Murray from Cheshire Police added: “Whilst the vast majority of people enjoyed themselves in a law-abiding way on Bonfire Night, there was unfortunately a mindless minority who put others in danger, through reckless acts.
“Through the bonfire night period officers have worked closely with our colleagues in Cheshire Fire and Rescue to keep our communities safe.
“We will not tolerate acts of violence against ourselves and our emergency service colleagues and will always take firm action against any identified offenders.”
