FIREFIGHTERS have rescued a dog after he fell into a canal near the locks and couldn't get out.
A crew from Middlewich was dispatched to the scene off Booth Lane in the town at around 7am this morning.
Dexter the dog had fallen into the Wardle Canal while on his morning walk.
But after using poles to reach him, firefighters were able to pull Dexter to safety and hand back to his owners.
A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "A dog had fallen into the canal and had to be rescued by firefighters.
"The dog had fallen into the canal close to the locks, crews used reach poles to lift the dog back to safety.
"The dog is now back with its owner."
