WINNINGTON Park showed some great periods of play but paid a heavy price for a lack of consistency.
Fielding a reshuffled side due to injuries, they fell 50-15 at home to Birkenhead Park.
The scoreline flattered the visitors who were only two converted tries in front when home talisman Shaun Underdown was sent to the sin-bin for 10 minutes midway through the second half.
Although Park dug deep not to concede any points during this period, the extra effort perhaps took its toll as Birkenhead crossed for three converted tries after his return.
Cam Flanagan opened the scoring with a penalty but it was the only time they led.
Park put BP under some early pressure, with Jake Cornwell breaking tackles to give the hosts some territory.
Unfortunately, a loose pass gave BP a turnover and they scooped up the lose ball to cross for an unconverted try.
After another period of possession, a scrum in the opposition half was lost and BP passed the ball out wide for their winger to score.
Park camped on the BP line and were held up but two converted tries within 10 minutes and a penalty put the visitors in command.
Winnington ended the half with a converted try by Ross Morrin and started the second with another from Will Morrillo but it was as close as Park got to rescuing the situation.
