A CLASSIC pub favourite is coming back to Moulton in a bid to bring the community to life.
A darts tournament, the Moulton Crow Darts Shield, will start this month.
The competition is the brainchild of Clr David Hough, the latest member of the parish council and a lifelong Moulton resident, who hopes the competition will help make Moulton a village to be proud of.
He said: "I looked around Moulton village and I thought back in time to how we used to have more fun and different functions at our pubs and clubs.
I then came up with the idea of a Moulton Crow Darts Shield to be played for by any five-person group living in the village with their team and team names lodged at any of Moulton's five pubs or clubs."
He added: "The country's dying and the village is dying and we've got to try to get these people back into the community spirit - although there are more things going on in Moulton than you might expect."
Moulton Parish Council supported Clr Hough's idea and agreed to sponsor the 18-inch wooden shield and five four-inch shields for the winners.
The bigger team shield, from JS Trophies in Northwich, was then adapted by Clr Hough to sport a magnificent eight-and-a-quarter inch aluminium crow.
Eight teams have signed up so far and a meeting will be held at Moulton's branch of the Royal British Legion tonight, Wednesday, to thrash out the finer details of the tournament.
Clr Hough said: "It's got to get going but the proof of the pudding will be in its second helping and if it carries on next year."
Anyone who wants to join in the tournament should ring Clr Hough on 01606 594830.
