1874 Northwich bounced back to winning ways and climbed to fourth place in Northern Premier League West on Tuesday night.
Strikes from Mackenzie O'Neill and Joe Woolley sealed a 2-0 home success against determined bottom-of-the-table side City of Liverpool.
Two other 1874 attempts at goal hit the woodwork but it was certainly not all one-way traffic, with the Purps in particular putting their hosts under severe pressure in the final 15 minutes.
But the 74 backline stood firm, with Jack Marrow outstanding as man of the match, to keep a third clean sheet of the season so far.
Joe Woolley got Greens off to a perfect start, netting in the fourth minute.
He earned the free-kick which he banged home first time after Josh Quarless had headed on the ball that flew in.
1874 came close again in the 15th minute when Liam Buckley cut inside and glanced his shot against the crossbar.
Although much of the rest of the half was scrappy, 74 deserved to turn around ahead.
O'Neill doubled the lead in the 63rd minute when he capitalised on a defensive error.
He also hit the post from a corner delivery in the fourth minute of added time but the two goals proved to be enough.
Greens are not scheduled to play again until they host Skelmersdale United on Saturday, October 1.
1874: Aghayere, Broe, Buckley, Fenton, Marrow, Green, J Woolley, M Woolley, Quarless, Irlam, O'Neill. Subs: A Woods, Gardner, B Woods, Leblanc-Akpo, Noble.
Meanwhile, Witton Albion fell to a 2-1 loss at Bootle also in NPL West on Tuesday.
They are now fourth from bottom, having lost their past three games in all competitions.
Bootle had such a succession of chances it was no surprise when Tom Peterson fired them in front after 34 minutes.
Jordan Darlington's tap home 10 minutes later gave Witton hopes of a point until Connor Millington slotted home the winner in the 81st minute.
Witton are without a fixture on Saturday and will head to Prescot Cables on Tuesday.
In other fixtures in the North West Counties League, Northwich Victoria entertain Burscough on Saturday, when Winsford United host Congleton, kick-offs 3pm.
Winsford will then head to Prestwich Heys on Tuesday, kick-off 7.45pm, with Vics hosting Litherland REMYCA 24 hours later.
