A BEST kept village judge is appealing to residents to keep Davenham tidy.
The judge, who has asked to remain anonymous, has lived in the village for more than 40 years and hopes it will do well in this year's competition.
She says villages are not judged on which is the prettiest.
She said: "As a judge of the competition for more than 25 years, this is simply not true.
"During the judging period my fellow judges and I are looking for continued evidence of a community that cares about its village and that is involved in making sure it is a good place in which to live."
The parish council is hoping to involve village groups and schools in keeping the area tidy and encouraging others to do the same.
The judge added: "Both individuals and groups can play a part in making sure a village is tidy and litter free.
"Be responsible for looking after your own area of the village however small."
