Middlewich town mayor Cllr Colin Coules said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the royal family at this difficult time.
“We do not forget that Queen Elizabeth was a much loved mother and grandmother as well as our sovereign.
“For over 70 years, Her Majesty honoured her pledge to faithfully serve our country and its people.
“Her resolve, courage, faith and humility have been a stabilising influence for so many generations.
“Through world conflict and unrest to domestic crises and pandemics, we have looked to Queen Elizabeth for hope and encouragement.
“It was always forthcoming and delivered with sincerity and sensitivity.”
A book of condolence has been opened in the reception at Middlewich Town Hall and flowers can be left outside the flag pole, at the Cenotaph and the cemetery.
