BARNTON picked up maximum points over the bank holiday weekend with emphatic wins at home to Rocester and away to Maine Road.
The weekend got off to the perfect start for the Villagers with a three-goal victory at Townfield Lane on Saturday afternoon, with Matty Ball opening the scoring with a rocket from distance.
Despite their dominance Liam Page’s men were unable to extend their lead in the first half but thanks to a quickfire double from Harvey Sample midway into the second half they were able to put the game beyond their visitors.
The introduction of Adam Moseley off the bench for his Barnton debut sparked the game into life with Rocester unable to live with his movement and he played a part in both of Sample’s goals.
Monday saw the Villagers head to Maine Road and they produced their best performance of the season so far as they blew their hosts out of sight in a blistering first-half display.
Alex Jones was on hand to open the scoring after only seven minutes and then Freddy Garbutt got his first goal for the club with only 13 minutes being played.
Liam Kennington then struck from just inside the area to make it 3-0 before half time.
Despite the lead the Villagers continued to dominate in the second half with Kennington hitting the woodwork and Ball and Jack Duffy going close with efforts late on.
Page was delighted with his team, saying: “It has been a great bank holiday weekend all round, picking up maximum points and not conceding is testament to this group and shows their commitment.
“Playing two games in three days is tough at this level, the first half on Saturday was tough as Rocester sat in and made it hard for us but we were patient and punished them late on.”
Monday’s victory was a fourth straight league win for the Villagers and moves them up to sixth in the North West Counties League Division One South table.
Page was keen to praise his team’s consistency: “We know we are a good team but we haven’t backed it up that often. We are a young team and are learning and that is showing now with results.”
He added: “Maine Road are a tough team. They are a physical side but we stood firm and to be honest we produced the best football I’ve seen in my time at the club.”
Next up for the Villagers is a trip to Cheadle Town on Saturday afternoon, kick off at 3pm.
