A WINSFORD school has submitted a planning application to install a mini multi-use games area for pupils.

Oaklands School, in Montgomery Way, has applied to Cheshire West and Chester Council for the games area, which will ‘provide children with a dedicated space for specific, structured games’.

The school is a unique secondary special school for students with learning difficulties, and the games area would ‘meet their complex development needs'.

The space would measure 20m by 10m, consist of 2m-high rebound fencing to all sides, have two access gates and 14mm sports grass surfacing with sports markings.

The planning application reads: “This new space has been designed to support social interactions between children and to develop a range of skills and abilities which will help to empower pupils to choose the activities that are best for them during recreational time and open up many new activities to be used during teaching time.

“The mini multi-use games area allows for the children who are keen to play a team sport, but for those who struggle with their co-ordination and mobility to have the opportunity to play sports such as seated volleyball or use a running frame in a game of football, as the surfacing removes
uneven ground and makes it safer for those with mobility difficulties.

“Currently, the area is not used by pupils during break and lunchtime or for teaching as it is uneven and boggy.”
