TRAIN operator Northern is teaming up with schools in Cheshire and across the North West to help students who travel by rail save money on their tickets.
As high school pupils prepare to head back to the classroom in September, the rail firm is offering a special season ticket which can get students up to 75 per cent off the normal adult fare.
On several routes in Cheshire, these savings can be worth as much as £219 a year.
Education season tickets, for 11 to 16-year-olds, offer unlimited travel between two stations and are valid seven days a week, including holidays.
Mark Powles, customer and commercial director at Northern, said: “Parents can save hundreds of pounds per year by investing in an education season ticket at the start of the academic year.
“They’ll also be able to rest assured their child will always have the means to get to and from school – and they won’t have to scramble around for the train fare each morning.”
An example Cheshire route from Sandbach to Holmes Chapel would cost £1.80 for an 'anytime day return' ticket or £351 based on 195 school days.
With the education season ticket at an annual price of £132, the daily cost would be 68p.
