A PERENNIAL shoplifter from Northwich has been jailed after failing to comply with the terms of a court order.
Toni-Ann Philpin, of Oak Street, was sent to prison for 10 weeks because she didn’t show up to appointments with the probation service.
The 31-year-old, who has a history of offending, including when stealing items from a B&Q store in Crewe last year, was appearing at Warrington Magistrates Court on Wednesday, August 17.
The court heard how a community order had been made by magistrates in Chester on March 4 this year after Philpin was convicted of stealing booze worth more than £400.
Those crimes took place within the space of a week in October last year, when Philpin stole alcohol worth £148.50 from the Winnington Co-op on Walker Road. Undeterred, the brazen thief returned to the same store seven days later where she upped the ante, taking bottles of booze worth a whopping £254.30.
She had also helped herself to unidentified items worth £25 from the town’s Quality Save store.
There were also thefts from other stores, including items worth £67.50 from Poundland and meat from the Co-op – with both of those offences taking place in Chester when she was on bail.
Despite being given the opportunity to work with the probation service to find a solution to her repeat offending, Philpin failed to show up to appointments in March this year.
The terms of the community order were revoked, and she was sent to immediate custody for a period of 10 weeks.
