A 29-YEAR-OLD man has avoided an immediate prison sentence after he displayed ‘drunken violence in a busy pub’.
Ryan Thomas, of Chester Road in Winsford, used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour against a man in Northwich on July 5, 2022, intending to cause him fear that violence would be used against him.
Thomas pleaded guilty to the offence in Chester Magistrates’ Court on August 9.
The court described his behaviour as ‘prolonged drunken violence’ with multiple members of the public present.
Magistrates sentenced Thomas to eight weeks in prison but suspended it for 12 months.
This was due to ‘a likely prospect of rehabilitation by addressing alcohol consumption with the probation service and abstaining from alcohol for a prolonged period of time’.
Thomas is now subject to alcohol abstinence and monitoring for 100 days and must complete rehabilitation activities for a maximum of 20 days.
He’ll need to pay £85 in court costs and a £154 surcharge.
