A TOWN councillor says he intends to run for a seat on Cheshire West and Chester (CWAC) after becoming fed up with the authority.
Lee Siddall, who represents the Winnington and Castle ward on Northwich Town Council, said not enough was being done for the town at borough level.
Cllr Siddall sited the prolonged delays with a new Winnington Bridge and a lack of communication about the future of Weaver Square as just two examples.
“I’ve been involved in the community for quite a while now,” he said.
“A lot of people have suggested to me that I should go for it, because they see me as someone who can get things done.
“I feel information from CWAC isn’t freely flowing and one of my things is to keep people informed about what’s going on.
“The real kicker was the waste strategy consultation over the green bins.
“I just feel the consultation was leading and didn't mention the green bin tax,” added Cllr Siddall, who will represent the Liberal Democrats at the election in May 2023.
Cllr Siddall has campaigned for several years for a new Winnington Bridge and also been calling for a weight restriction, citing recent closures for emergency repairs as an example of why one should be imposed.
“While I am pleased about the funding application going in for the Winnington corridor, the bridge has actually had about £1 million spent on it within the last two years.
“And now, because of the Soot Hill closure – which is not likely to open anytime soon – it has become ridiculous when the bridge has had to be closed for repairs.
“People from Barnton are pulling their hair out with the disruption caused.
“It's not good that local families wanting to get to Marbury Park or the Anderton Boat Lift have to go through streets that would usually be quiet and have kids playing out during the summer holidays.”
Cllr Siddall went on to say that he feels CWAC are not listening to the people of Northwich.
“There has been no new consultation on Weaver Square and a ridiculous waste strategy consultation.
“I feel CWAC is not listening to the people of Northwich, and we deserve much better.
“I know this will anger many of my political colleagues, but sometimes the evidence is so considerable and unequivocal.
“I know a lot of people in the town feel the same way.
“These are some of the reasons why I want to run next year in the elections and fight hard for Northwich.”
