A NORTHWICH pub has called on its regulars to help struggling families provide school uniforms for their children.
School may be out for the summer, but families facing the cost-of-living crisis may already be worrying about replacing uniform for the autumn term.
With that in mind, popular pub, The Clock Tower, is calling on the local community to donate items of school wear to help those in need.
“We understand every year, there is a lot of pre-loved school uniforms which may not be needed anymore,” said Jess Lucas, general manager of the Joseph Holt – owned pub and restaurant.
“That's why we want to collect any unwanted uniforms that are in good condition, which would help those less fortunate, especially with the rising cost of living.
“An added bonus is that recycling uniform is so good for the planet as it saves landfill space and reduces greenhouse gases.”
The Schoolwear Association has found the average cost of compulsory school uniform and sportswear items is £101.19 per pupil. This means for families with more than one child, the amount spent on uniforms can add up to several hundred pounds.
Items of school wear can be dropped in at the pub, added Jess.
“We will then organise by size and school and list on our Facebook page,” she said.
“Anybody who would like the uniform just needs to direct message the page and we will put it aside for collection.
“Any left over, will be donated to the schools.”
Paul Longmire, marketing manager of Joseph Holt added: “This again shows how pubs are so central to the community and work to reach out to those in need.
“We`re sure there will be a generous response from our big-hearted customers and from the community beyond so that we can do something to help struggling families with the cost of providing uniform.”
