A NORTHWICH man has been arrested after escaping from a car which had been driven into a river.
Emergency services rushed to the scene in the River Dane off Waterbank Row at around 4am on Saturday morning.
According to eyewitnesses, water rescue teams were dispatched to the incident, however the driver was able to get out of the vehicle - a white Ford Focus - and swim to safety.
A Cheshire Police spokesman confirmed the 41-year-old has since been arrested on suspicion of domestic offences.
He said: "At around 4am on Saturday, July 23, police were called to reports that a car had been driven into the River Dane near Waterbank Row, Northwich.
"Officers attended the scene and on arrival they found that the driver of the car had escaped the vehicle unharmed.
"The 41-year-old local man has since been arrested on suspicion of domestic offences.
"He is currently in police custody assisting officers with their enquiries."
