A NORTHWICH schoolgirl has been selected to play a role in a major new theatre production.
Tilly Baker, a ten-year-old from Davenham, has been performing since she was even younger, will hit the stage in a new production of ‘Identical’ at the Lowry in Salford.
The musical is based on Erich Kästner’s novel ‘The Parent Trap’ and mum Sharon said she is so proud of her daughter and what she has achieved so far.
“We’re just all show proud of her," she said.
“She’s going to be one of the summer camp girls and it’s her first paid role – she’s really excited.
“It’s being directed by Trevor Nunn, who has done Les Misérables among lots of other things, and won lots of awards, so that’s really amazing for her too.”
‘Identical’ tells the story of twin girls separated at birth and reunited by chance at a summer camp ten years later. To get to know their parents and reconcile the two halves of their family, they decide to swap places and live each other’s lives.
The novel has already had the Hollywood treatment with two Disney movies making stars of Hayley Mills (1961) and Lindsay Lohan (1998).
“The show starts in the middle of August and runs through the beginning of September,” Sharon added.
“She trains at Stagebox in Manchester and she’s got an agent (Lauren Kelly Casting) who are based in Warrington.
“They put her forward for the audition and there were 70 other kids there.
“She’s done so well.
“She’s loved being on stage from such a young age and she’s already done a professional panto when she did Peter Pan at the Crewe Lyceum in 2019.”
Talent for performing clearly runs in the family as Tilly’s younger brother Leo, who at the tender age of five, is also signed up with the same casting agent.
And when she performs in the show (she will perform 10 times in total) all the family will be there to cheer her on.
“I’ll be going twice to see her, once with my mother-in-law and then the second time with everyone else.
“She puts in so much effort to all her auditions.
“She always goes in there with a smile on her face and just loves it.”
Identical will be showing at The Lowry in Salford Quays, from Friday, August 19 until Saturday, September 3.
