Luke Reynolds provides his verdict on the 1874 Northwich 5-0 victory at Cheadle Heath Nomads in Saturday's away pre-season friendly...
1874 Northwich produced a resounding 5-0 win at Cheadle Heath Nomads of the North West Counties League at the Heath Stadium, with the goals coming from Fenton Green, Ash Woods, Callum Gardner and a Kenzy O’Neill brace.
1874 started quickly but failed to take the lead although Jamie Reed had a good chance but was ruled offside.
Then, Green scored on 31 minutes with a fine finish after a smooth pass from Liam Buckley split the Nomads defence wide open.
The second half provided some good flowing football, with some end-to-end play but after 57 minutes 1874 doubled their lead with O’Neill scoring with an angled shot from the corner of the box.
Both teams now made substitutions and had half chances but it was 1874 who struck again with Woods sliding home on 65 minutes.
Soon after, the visitors got their fourth when O’Neill slid a shot under the home keeper for his second of the match.
With all the pressure now coming from 1874 Northwich, it was the visitors that grabbed the last goal on 81 minutes as a trialist played a fine through ball for Gardner to run on to and slot confidently past the keeper.
1874 are away to Barnton FC on Wednesday, kick-off 7.30pm:
1874 Northwich: Allen, Buckley, Hough, Fouldes, Jones, Green, Noble, M Woolley, Reed, Irlam, J Woolley. Subs: Papra, Marrow, Gardner, O’Neill, Woods, Trialist.
