EDIE Coyle’s coach Sophie Whelan was proud of the Davenham 12-year-old’s performance in her maiden national finals.
The County High School Year 7 pupil helped the north west team finish sixth of 14 entrants in the women’s artistic showdown of the national development plan at Fenton Manor Sports Complex in Stoke.
Edie, who sealed her place when she passed national Grade 2 with distinction as she finished third overall in the North West Grades competition in Manchester in May, will benefit from the experience of competing at a level she has not contested before.
Whelan was proud of how her Warrington Gymnastics Club student fought back after making some nervous errors when she was first up on the beam in the first round.
Her performances on the rest of the apparatus were as good, if not better, than the initial competition.
All her pieces were tidy and confident, her full twist on the floor was clean apart from a little step back.
On bars, her strongest apparatus, she was joint third with a few others at the end of their round of 24.
The top three out of a team’s four scores counted and apart from the beam, all of Edie's scores were needed and used to help bring the team their sixth place.
Overall, Edie finished 34th out of 52 with 58.700 which was a creditable showing up against a number of older and more experienced gymnasts.
