THE Cheshire men’s side secured their second win of the 2022 county campaign with a victory over Derbyshire by nine shots on Sunday, writes David O'Brien.
At the home venue of Crosstown BC in Knutsford, Cheshire recorded 10 winners out of the 12 games with Andy Hamman and Tom Vickers leading the way with 21-6 and 21-7 victories.
The away team had lost their leg by 42 shots and with two games on the green at Crosstown Cheshire were 10 shots behind on the overall score but victories for Andy Birtles and Robert Winnington in the last two games overturned Derbyshire’s advantage and saw Cheshire take the game.
Cheshire have finished a respectable second in the group stage but Warwick & Worcester with three victories in the group have progressed to the semi-finals stage.
Danny Nixon and Tom Vickers were the qualifiers at the Castle Classic on Saturday.
The two Wharton Cons players progressed to the finals day on July 23.
Over at Wharton Cons on Sunday the first qualifiers in the Wharton Cons Open were Ian Howell (Castle Sports) and Paul Roberts.
The field for this Sunday evening's qualifier is Lee Dale, Paul Dale, Carl Armitage, Stuart Goodwin, Clay Flattley, Martin Gerrard (Owley Wood), Berwyn Williams Steve Allman, Chris Stretch, Ben Stapleton, Matt Hargreaves, Calvin Gratrix, Andy Houghton (Castle Sports), Liam Jones, Ben Hinton and Conall Redmond (Davenham).
Wharton Cons defeated Castle Sports in the semi-finals of the De Knoop Cup on Saturday at Owley Wood and now face Lloyds Hotel in the final on Saturday, August 6.
Tasmin Birkett and Lester Bebbington won the Davenham BC Mixed Pairs on Sunday. Coming through a field of 32 pairs, they defeated Andrew Bell and Robert Wilton in the final.
Andrea Bell and Nicola Boulton are the Mid Cheshire representatives in the British Crown Green Ladies Senior Merit on Saturday, with the competition taking place at Brighouse Sports Club in Yorkshire.
