ROAST dinner was on the menu this week as we asked where in Northwich serves the best of this British classic.
Yorkshire puddings filled with gravy, crispy roast potatoes and tender slices of meat that melt in the mouth – roast dinners have been a staple meal on Sundays for hundreds of years.
Whether it’s for lunch or evening meal, the traditional roast is a firm favourite but where can hungry people get the best that Northwich has to offer?
So far in our Best of 2022 competition we’ve looked at hair, nails, beauty and fitness as well as pies, pubs and fish chips.
Breakfast and afternoon tea were the most recent categories with voting for the town’s best independent shop taking place last weekend.
Next up, we asked you to tell us your favourite place to go for a roast dinner and why they deserve to be included on our shortlist.
After reading all of your nominations, we’ve narrowed it down to seven, who will now battle it out to be named Best Roast Dinner in the area and we need your help to choose an overall winner.
There are three ways to vote:
1. Search for the Best Of post on our Northwich Guardian, Knutsford Guardian or Winsford and Middlewich Guardian Facebook pages and comment under the post with the name of your winner = 1 vote
2. Name your favourite in the comments section on this article via our website = 2 votes
3. Purchase a copy of this week’s Northwich Guardian, Knutsford Guardian or Winsford and Middlewich Guardian (July 7 edition) and fill in the entry form = 5 votes

“Everything is first class” is high praise indeed and it seems their roast dinners live up to their good reputation.
One nomination said: “They have huge portions with perfectly cooked pink beef.”

Vale Royal Abbey Arms, Chester Road, Northwich
With recommendations like “Vale Royal Abbey Arms, no question!” and “superb food”, Vale Royal Abbey Arms was definitely going to be one of the finalists.
They’ve already been shortlisted for best pies and best pub so this establishment is clearly a hit with customers.
One review on their Facebook page said: “This is proper hearty pub food and the very best Sunday dinner you could ask for.
“If you like extra gravy, there’s always more available by the jugful!”

The George and Dragon, Great Budworth
This public house is in Great Budworth and a Grade II listed building.
Satisfied visitors say it’s “without a doubt” the best place to go on a Sunday if you want the perfect roast dinner.
One reviewer on their Facebook page on Sunday said they had enjoyed a walk round Marbury Park before tucking into a Sunday roast at The George and Dragon.
