PLANS are underway to ensure a community hub remains a vital focal point for the next 25 years.
The Venue in Rudheath could remain at the heart of the community for at least the next quarter of a century if the parish council can agree a long-term lease.
The multi-use space has been leased Cheshire West and Chester Council since 2016 – initially on a two-year trial basis, but Cllr Alison Gerrard says a new long-term deal would not only secure its future but enable more funding applications can be applied for.
She said: “We’re looking to get people’s feedback on our plans for the future.
“The lease has been extended for 12 months to allow us to put together a business plan.
“This is why we’re asking people in the local area what they want to see it used for.
“It’s really important for us to keep this space for the community.
“I’ve put a lot of time and effort into organising various events and I think it’s just nice to have that space to come together and enjoy time with people in their local community.
“If we take it on a long term, we need community engagement which will help with funding bids in the future.”
The centre is used by a variety of different groups including the Little Owls Pre-School Nursery as well as Bee-Weighed – a weight loss support group.
Cllr Gerrard added: “It’s a hugely popular community space.
“The parish council even use it to run events, such as the recent Jubilee Afternoon Tea for our residents.
“We also have regular music nights – which are very much a community night out.
“It’s a very safe environment for people to come to, which is obviously incredibly important.”
Other events held at the centre include a Mad Hatters Tea Party at Easter as well as a pantomime in January, which was free of charge.
Rudheath councillors are keen to keep hold of a building they believe can become a valued community asset for many years to come and want your input as to what you want.
