THE town mayor has praised the success of the first ever Krazy Races event and that he hoped it would return next year.

Northwich’s Verdin Park was filled with more than 15,000 people as the town hosted its first Krazy Races soapbox event on Sunday, June 26.

Businesses, charities and independent teams took on the Krazy Race series’ steepest and longest racetrack at 350m - all to raise money for a number of local causes and headline charity Macmillan Cancer Support.

Cllr Graham Emmett said it was fantastic to see so many people lining the streets to take part in such an amazing and free to attend day.

He said: “So much work as gone into it and thank you to Sarah Belcher Events Limited for working with Northwich Town Council to deliver a truly amazing event for the town.

“I would also like to thank the key partners, Northwich Town Council, Northwich BID, Rotary, CWAC and all the volunteers for working so hard on the day.

“There were so many people who came together for it, including the cart builders, teams and marshalls.

“Let’s make the next one bigger and better and really start to put this great town on the map.”

Organiser and founder of Krazy Races, Sarah Belcher, echoed the mayor’s comments, adding it was an event she isn’t likely to forget anytime soon.

“As our second Krazy Races event of the year, it’s been incredible seeing so many teams take part,” she said.

“I think we’ve surpassed our highest number of spectators at a Krazy Races event too.

“Congratulations to all the winners and to everyone who took part in some way - whether that’s by spectating, building and driving the karts or working hard behind the scenes to make sure everything went without a hitch.

“We hope everyone had a brilliant day in the sunshine, despite a bit of wind, and managed to raise lots of money for some fantastic charities.”
