THOUSANDS of people descended on Northwich at the weekend as the town was turned into a racetrack.
Organisers say around 15,000 spectators lined the route of the Krazy Races course, with a huge array of soapbox cars flying down Castle Hill.
The event was completely free and had been backed by the town council and Northwich BID.
Although it was making its debut in the town, due to its success, it is likely it won't be the last time.
With many local businesses entering teams, including the Salty Dog pub and live music venue, the eventual winners were a team from ASM Technologies. They beat Ship Happens into second place with Postman Pat and his Special Delivery Team in third.
Alongside prizes for those whose kart achieved a podium finish, prizes were also handed out for the Kraziest Crew which went to Toy Story 2.
Kraziest Car was won by New Era Boxing and the Best Team, as voted by the public, went to the Manora Marauders who had a bath decorated as the Viking Longship.
The Team Spirit Award went to the team from Rotaract.
Jeff Ashbrook, who was behind the wheel of team Salty Dog said it was great day.
"The crowd where ace as when we had a wobble the noise was great put a big smile on my face," he said.
"But on the last go, we blew the rear tyre out and was out of control most of the way, but great fun!"
The event is expected to raise plenty of money for headline charity Macmillian Cancer Support - with each team also raising funds for their own specific charitable causes.
