LITTER in Kingsmead is the worst it has been in 10 years, according to a concerned resident and councillor.
The area around Kingsmead Square is still a rubbish hot spot despite the parish council's work with businesses to improve the area.
Clr Adrian Bridge said: "I've lived in Kingsmead for 10 years and litter here, especially glass, is the worst it has ever been."
Davenham Parish Council wrote to shops and takeaways in Kingsmead and Davenham last year to remind them of their responsibilities to clear shop litter within a certain radius.
Although some businesses have taken the advice on board, councillors think another letter may be needed.
Clr Chris Colclough said: "Tesco and Domino's Pizza do take a lot of care and have litter picks - we have to take care not to alienate the businesses that are helping."
The issue has not been helped by vandals who destroyed three of the seven new bins, which were installed at the end of last year.
Clr Colclough said: "The vandals decided to take the black covers off the bins and hide them so the bits left were in a skeleton state.
"They also distributed the litter in the process of doing it."
She added: "I did see them doing it because it woke me up - that gives you an idea of the amount of noise."
She reported the incident to Vale Royal Borough Council's Streetscene department, which is looking into it.
