THE news a much-loved town centre is being forced to close its doors has created an outpouring of emotion from our readers.
It was confirmed over the weekend the Crafty Stiches wool shop on Witton Street will be closing at the end of the July.
The heart-breaking decision was announced by owners Louise Hough and her mum Joan Hubbard; with the pair citing Covid and the ever-increasing cost of living crisis as the main reasons.
The family-run business has been part of town’s high street for the last 24 years, but its history as a wool shop goes back to 1946, when it started out as West Wools after the Second World War.
It’s clear the shop holds many poignant memories for a lot of you as well and you took time to wish Louise and Joan well for the future.
Suzanne Podlawski Kennedy posted: “So very sad - always went with my mum when she got her wool. Always loved the window displays. Good Luck for the future.”
Maxine Simpson also spoke of her sadness when she posted: “So sad.
“You and your little shop will be missed. Good luck in the future.”
Maz Robbo was similarly upset by the news, commenting: “Aww, so sad, will really miss you.
“Where will I get my ideas for something new if I can't chat to you?
“You're a unique little shop.
“Take care and look after yourselves.”
Gwen Atherton said: “Best window displays in Northwich.
“I only ever go in occasionally, but you stocked some wonderful crafting items over the years.
“You'll be sadly missed from town.
“Enjoy your well-deserved retirement!”
Janice Hayes posted: “So sorry to hear this.
“Another local unique shop we are losing.
“Good luck for your future.”
Gill Clark also commented about how sad the news was, posting: “I always enjoy your window displays and will miss all your cheery faces.
“Good luck for the future.”
June Wilkinson posted: “Such a lovely shop.
“Northwich is built on little shops, and it is sad when they go.
“I remember when your little shop was Richardson’s, a gent's outfitters.”
