CHESHIRE crown green bowls men's team team face a tough assignment in their second game of the County Championship on Sunday when they face Warwick and Worcester, writes David O'Brien.
The county side successfully negotiated a tricky first fixture against Staffordshire in May but the encounter on Sunday will see them facing a much tougher test.
Old Trafford Bowling Club will stage a home leg in which Robert Winnington of Castle Sports will be alongside Glynn Cookson and Jack Bushell of Wharton Cons in the Cheshire colours.
The away leg is being staged at the Tally Ho Club in Birmingham where Mid Cheshire clubs have nine players representing Cheshire.
Castle Sports' Andy Hamman, Steven Morrey and Jason Cornes will line up alongside the Wharton Cons contingent of Tom Vickers, Pete Illidge, Danny Nixon, Owen Cookson and Simon Cookson.
Neal Ocego of Red Lion completes the line-up of Mid Cheshire league representatives in the fixture and both games will start at 2pm.
Callum Wraight took home the first prize of £250 at the Castle Sports Sets competition on Saturday with a victory over Dave Jackson in the final.
Owley Wood stage the second event of their centenary celebrations this Saturday with a mixed pairs event starting at 10am.
There is lots of local interest for spectators to follow in the field and refreshments will be served all day.
Meanwhile, Castle Sports have opened a 44-shot lead over Wharton Cons at the top of the Mid Cheshire League Premier Division after four games of the 2022 season and with two home games before they face their Winsford rivals the David Street club will be looking to be build on this lead before their clash on Friday, June 17.
A close fight is developing at the top of Section One with only 14 shots separating Owley Wood B, Meadowbank and Winsford Cons after four fixtures as they seek to gain promotion to the Premier Division.
Middlewich RBL top Section Two but games in hand for Kingswood and Norley should see them move above the Middlewich team.
Rudheath are at the summit in both Section Three and Four.
