THE public have been told to enjoy Delamere Forest this summer, but to leave the disposable barbecues at home.
Cheshire Police Rural Crime Team warned visitors not to ruin the popular beauty spot for everyone else with 'dangerous' and 'foolhardy' behaviour.
A PCSO for the team posted on Facebook: "It's the time of year where the days are longer and warmer and it can lead to people taking portable barbecues into the forest and also lighting fires.
"We understand that people want to try enjoy themselves, but it's strictly prohibited in and around the areas looked after by ForestryEngland.
"This is for good reason as many of these fires and barbecues are the cause of fires that devastate habitat and wildlife.
"It only takes one to go wrong. We also know that almost in every case these disposable barbecues are never cleared up.
"They're just too hot and messy to carry back, so only use them where you have permission of the landowner or at home.
"Don't let your attempt at enjoyment destroy it for everyone else."
The staff at Delamere have also seen an increase in anti-social behaviour caused by people on e-scooters.
The PCSO added: "If left unchallenged it could lead to someone getting badly hurt.
"Please let the staff at the forest know if you see people carrying barbecues into the forest or setting fires as it is an incredibly dangerous and foolhardy thing to do.
"You'll soon see some of the work the team are doing to tackle these issues."
