A MAN has died after being hit by a train near a station in Northwich.
Emergency services were called to the rail line near Hartford Station at 4pm this afternoon.
Police officers are working to identify the man and inform his next of kin.
As a result of the incident, rail services have been suspended on the West Coast Mainline between Crewe and Liverpool Lime Street.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Hartford at 4pm today following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
"Paramedics also attended and sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene.
"Officers are currently working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin.
"The incident is not being treated as suspicious."
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “At 4pm on Monday, 23 May, police were called to reports that a man had been hit by a train at Hartford train station, Northwich.
“Officers are in attendance at the scene and the station is closed as a result of the incident.
“Trains are also suspended on the West Coast Mainline between Crewe and Liverpool Lime Street as a result of the incident.”
A spokesman for Avanti West Coast has tweeted: "Due to emergency services dealing with an incident between Warrington Bank Quay and Crewe, all lines are blocked. Please check your journey before you travel."
