“YOU won’t get a better pie anywhere” is the perfect endorsement when you run a café.
That’s exactly what one happy customer said about the pies served at JD’s Café in Northwich and John Solomon and his team can now say that they sell the Best Pies in Cheshire after taking the Pie of the Year crown in our Best of 2022 competition.
With four tasty treats made daily at the Winnington café, the steak pie, cheese and onion, meat and potato and minced beef and onion are a real hit with customers, who voted for them to win our latest award.
Lissie Wright Hair was the winner of our first award – Best for Hair – and voting is currently taking place as we search for who does the best nails in Cheshire.
JD’s Café is open between 8am and 2pm seven days a week, serving workmen and business people alike who call in to sample their freshly cooked food.
Individual pies are hugely popular with the steak pie being the favourite but John also sells a family-sized pie that is perfect to take home and serve up for dinner – ideally with chips, gravy and peas.
JD’s Café has been open for 12 years and, like other eating places across the country, was hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic and national lockdowns.
The hardworking team decided to deliver Sunday dinners when they were unable to open the café, with orders coming in in their thousands.
They still offer a delivery service on their food and also welcome takeaway and eat in customers every day.
John said: “I was on holiday in Las Vegas when I heard that we’d been shortlisted and I wasn’t really sure what to think.
“We’re only doing our job but it’s great that customers enjoy our pies.
“We’re very grateful that they voted for us and we’re now able to say we sell the Pie of the Year 2022 in Cheshire.”
